User guide
First launch
The first time you open Island, a Welcome to Island card asks two things: how Island should look, and whether to bring your bookmarks along.
Choose a theme
Under Appearance, pick System, Light or Dark. System follows your operating system.
The default look is Native: a macOS-style source-list sidebar with the system font and one blue accent. You can switch to the Arc or Graphite look later in Appearance.
Native shows the welcome as a rounded card over a dimmed page. Its theme choices use the same neutral segmented control as the sidebar.
Import bookmarks
Under Import, Island lists the browsers it found on this computer. It can read bookmarks from Chrome-family browsers, Safari and Firefox, and the spaces and pinned tabs of Arc.
- Tick the browsers you want to import.
- Click Import selected. To skip importing, click Start browsing.
Nothing leaves your computer. If Island finds no readable bookmarks, the card says so.
Imported bookmarks show up in the command palette. Arc spaces become Island spaces with their colors and pinned tabs.
Open the card again
On macOS, choose Browser > Show Welcome…. You can also import later in Settings > General > Import from another browser.
What you see next
A new tab opens on the start page. The sidebar lists your tabs and spaces.
To learn the keys, press ⌘/ (Ctrl+/ on Windows and Linux). A card in the bottom-right corner lists the ten most-used shortcuts. Press ⌘/ or Esc again to close it. The full list is in Keyboard shortcuts.
